Update : 21 May 2025, 02:25 PM

The NBR Reform Unity Council on Wednesday announced a series of new programs, including a continuous non-cooperation movement against the National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman, to press home their demands.

Beginning on Wednesday, the council will continue its non-cooperation with the chairman of the NBR, according to a press statement issued by the unity council.

The statement also mentioned that a memorandum outlining their demands will be submitted to the chief adviser on Thursday.

On Thursday, a sit-in program will be staged at the NBR and its respective offices in and outside Dhaka.

However, export and international passenger services will be exempted from this.

A complete strike will be observed in all offices of the Tax, Customs, and VAT Departments—except for the Customs House and LC Stations—on Saturday and Sunday.

The strike at the Customs House and LC Stations will be observed from 9 am to 5 pm on these two days. However, export and international passenger services will remain exempted from the strike.

A complete strike will be observed in all offices of the Tax, Customs, and VAT Departments—except for international passenger services—from Monday onward.

The unity council on Wednesday added a new demand to their existing three, calling for the immediate removal of NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman.

The earlier demands are as follows: the issued ordinance should be immediately repealed; the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Revenue Reform should be published on the website for public access; and, after discussion and review of the draft proposed by the NBR and the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, appropriate and sustainable revenue system reforms should be implemented with input from all stakeholders, including aspiring organisations, business groups, civil society, and political leadership.
