Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Bangladesh JaSad) held a discussion with the National Consensus Commission on Saturday, aiming to build consensus on the issue of state reforms.

The meeting took place at the LD Hall of the National Parliament complex in the morning.

Among those present from the National Consensus Commission were Vice President Professor Ali Riaz, and members Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.

The 10-member Bangladesh JaSad delegation was led by party General Secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan. Other members included Indu Nanda Dutta, Dr Mushtaq Hossain, and ATM Mohabbat Ali, among others.

Speaking during the discussion, Professor Ali Riaz said: “Although the initiative for reform has come from the interim government, the demand itself belongs to the people.”

He added: “The commission aims to complete the first round of talks with political parties by mid-May, after which the second round will begin. Through this process, the commission hopes to determine a clear path for reform.”

The National Consensus Commission, headed by Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, was formed with the goal of forging national consensus on reforms. The commission officially began its activities on February 15.

Notably, in the first phase, five reform commissions were formed—Constitution Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Election Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, and the Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission.

A spreadsheet containing key recommendations from these commissions was sent to 39 political parties, requesting their specific feedback. So far, 32 parties have responded.

The National Consensus Commission began formal discussions on March 20 to finalize the recommendations of these reform commissions. It has already completed the first round of talks with seven political parties.
