Spain have traded places with Argentina atop the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking after dethroning La Albiceleste in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
Luis de la Fuente's men triumphed 1-0 over the 2022 winners in extra time at New York New Jersey Stadium, adding a second FIFA World Cup™ crown to the title they secured at South Africa 2010.
The expanded 48-team tournament concluded after a record 104 matches, with four nations making their debut on football's biggest stage.
France and England complete the top four in the Ranking, holding on to third and fourth place respectively despite semi-final defeats to Spain and Argentina.
Norway on the march
Norway are the biggest movers in the updated Ranking, rising 12 places to 19th after a historic run to the World Cup quarter-finals.
World Cup 2026 co-hosts Mexico are among the other notable climbers, moving up four places to return to the top 10 for the first time since March 2022. Canada remain in 30th, with the USA up one place to 16th.
Underdogs rewarded
Congo DR jump five places to 41st after recording their first World Cup win, defeating debutants Uzbekistan en route to the Round of 32. Cabo Verde enjoyed a memorable tournament bow, reaching the same stage and pushing Argentina all the way before losing 3-2 in extra time. The Blue Sharks move up three places to 64th, while fellow World Cup newcomers Curaçao are non-movers in 82nd.
North African duo head in opposite directions
Two prominent North African nations experienced contrasting fortunes, with beaten World Cup 2026 quarter-finalists Morocco climbing to sixth in the Ranking – their highest-ever position – and Tunisia recording the biggest drop in the latest edition, falling 12 places to 57th.
