Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma has said that there was no power shortage during Ramadan, nor has there been any electricity shortage so far this summer.
“You fasted peacefully during Ramadan this year… you have to give credit to the Yunus government for that,” he said while addressing the Platinum Jubilee celebration of Bandarban Government High School as the chief guest on Saturday.
Referring to the prices of brinjal and other essentials, the adviser said: “Was the price of brinjal Tk200 per kilogram during Ramadan? No, it remained at a tolerable level. Prices of goods usually go up during Ramadan, but this time they remained comparatively stable.”
Speaking about Eid security measures, Supradip Chakma said: “We want to ensure safety for all. Our goal is to build a happy, prosperous future generation. The rights of city dwellers and those living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts are equal, and efforts are being made to uphold that.”
The adviser also emphasized the need for quality education, saying: “Without it, we won’t survive in today’s competitive world. We want a 5% quota. I support it because I have personally benefited from the system. I will stand by it for the rest of my life.”
Noting that the three hill districts are among the most underdeveloped of the 64 districts in the country, he said: “We all must work together to advance this region in the days ahead.”
“It is the responsibility of the senior population to ensure the well-being of the ethnic communities living here. Bengalis are our elder brothers, and it is our teaching that we must all strive to live well together.”
