After celebrating Eid with their loved ones, people have begun returning to Dhaka and other districts, leading to increased pressure of small vehicles at the Daulatdia ferry terminal in Rajbari.

Since 10am on Saturday, there has been a gradual rise in the number of small vehicles. However, in the afternoon, the influx of microbuses and motorcycles was particularly noticeable.

Around 3pm, at Daulatdia’s terminal 7, a large number of small vehicles were seen waiting to cross the river by ferry.

The Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman ferry departed from Daulatdia towards Paturia carrying only two buses, with the rest of its space filled with microbuses and motorcycles.

Mostafizur Rahman, a small vehicle driver, said: “I’m travelling from Pangsa to Gazipur today. I didn’t face any traffic congestion at the terminal and was able to board the ferry directly upon arrival.”

Md Salah Uddin, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Daulatdia terminal, said: “Compared to yesterday, there is more pressure of vehicles today—especially small vehicles. However, 17 ferries, both large and small, are operating on this route to transport passengers and vehicles.

"We hope there won’t be any issues at the terminal and that passengers will be able to reach their destinations comfortably.”
