The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has constituted a 5-member investigation committee to re-evaluate the role and structure of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS).
This information was confirmed in a circular signed by Mohammad Mozammel, joint secretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources on Wednesday.
The committee was formed under the chaired of Brac University Vice Chancellor Professor Md Farhat Anwar.
The members are, Asian Centre for Development Professor AK Enamul Haque, Professor Md. Ziaur Rahman Khan of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) and Professor Khaled Mahmud of IBA of Dhaka University.
Kausar Habib will provide support to the entire committee.
According to the circular, the committee will review the foundational documents of BREB and PBS, the organizational structure of BREB and PGHS; will interview representatives of associations and will review regional documents and other information of BREB and PBS.
On the basis of reviews and interviews, the committee will recommend a suitable framework for a competitive, technically efficient, financially sustainable and efficient rural electrification centre capable of providing efficient services.
At the same time, BREB and PBS have to provide all their documents as per the requirement of the committee, the notification also mentioned.
