The ruling Awami League will not nominate any candidate with Boat symbol in the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader came up with the information following the party’s working committee meeting at Ganabhaban on Monday evening.
He said the decision of the committee will be finalized in a joint meeting of the party's local nomination board and parliamentary nomination board. However, the decision of the working committee is usually upheld by the local and parliamentary nomination boards.
Obaidul Quader said that the differences among party leaders and workers that were created over party candidacy and independent candidacy during the 12th parliamentary polls still prevails. All the eight divisional committees have been summoned in Dhaka in order to resolve the differences, he said.
Regarding the reserved seat for women at the Parliament, he said that the parliamentary nomination board of the party will decide on the matter after the polls schedule is announced.
The overall situation in the country and worldwide was also discussed in the meeting, Quader added.
