The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has filed a chargesheet against two people for spreading misinformation about the kind of meat used in kacchi biriyani served by Sultan's Dine.
The chargesheet was submitted on September 19 at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka against Kanak Layla and Abdul Hakim. They were part-timers at Jamuna Bank Limited, a private commercial bank.
The restaurant chain was accused earlier this year of serving cat meat in their biriyani. The PBI in its chargesheet said there was mutton in Sultan's Dine’s kacchi biriyani, not the meat of a dog or cat.
Earlier, the allegation was also investigated by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), which did not find any evidence to support it.
Kamal Ahmed, manager of the Gulshan branch of Sultan's Dine, filed a case at the CMM court in Dhaka on April 3 over the allegation.
Then the court directed the PBI to investigate the case.
After investigation, the PBI submitted the chargesheet to the court.
In its chargesheet, the PBI said Kanak and Hakim deliberately spread lies about Sultan's Dine.
Earlier, on March 2, a woman named Kanak Rahman Khan bought seven packets of biriyani from Sultan’s Dine in Gulshan.
After going to Mohakhali with the food, she called the manager of Sultan’s Dine and alleged that the “Kachchi Biryani was served with cat meat instead of goat meat.”
A consumer named Abdul Hakim made the same complaint.
On March 5, the complainants shared a video on Facebook - which immediately went viral.
The video claims that cat meat is served at Sultan’s Dine. However, the video was later removed.
