Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury on Tuesday announced the scrapping of all ongoing land surveys following the old method.
“All surveys that have already been done are cancelled. I want to confirm this standing in this parliament,” the minister told parliament while passing the Land Crime Prevention and Remedy Bill, 2023, aiming to curb land-related forgeries and offences.
But, he said, digital surveys will continue.
Taking part in the discussion, some MPs from the opposition bench highly criticized irregularities in ongoing land surveys. They made various complaints in parliament regarding the surveys.
"I have also received some complaints recently. Our objective is the Bangladesh Digital Survey. We have done it. A pilot project has been undertaken in Patuakhali and Barguna. Some places are being surveyed,” he said.
Saifuzzaman mentioned that he has received complaints even from his own constituency.
“People have expressed extreme dissatisfaction. Today I issued a directive to stop all surveys (following the old method) except digital surveys of the country and the surveys already conducted will be treated as null and void,” he said.
Because, he said, after making huge efforts if the ministry earns a bad name it would be futile.
“Therefore, all surveys that are underway are stopped. Digital surveys will be conducted in phases,” he said.
