Former state minister for information and broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan did not get any position in the new Sarishabari upazila Awami League committee.
The District Awami League approved the 71-member full committee of Sarishabari Upazila Awami League of Jamalpur after 11 months.
Approving the new committee without including Murad’s name has generated various discussions and criticisms.
It is known from party sources that this upazila, which is close to Jamalpur district sadar, is considered a strong base of the Awami League. On October 26, 2014, the committee was declared, making Md Sanwar Hossain Badsha president and Harun-or-Rashid the general secretary.
After 8 long years, in the tri-annual conference held at Sarishabari Honours College ground on September 25 last year, Md Sanwar Hossain Badsha was again declared president and Harun-or-Rashid the general secretary.
The district Awami League President Advocate Muhammad Baki Billah and General Secretary Bijan Kumar Chand signed the full committee of 71 members on Thursday night.
The supporters of Murad Hasan were surprised as his name was not included in the new committee.
They said that the district and upazila Awami League excluded Murad Hasan from the new committee as part of a conspiracy.
They demanded to include Murad Hasan's name in the new committee.
Despite repeated attempts, Dhaka Tribune could not reach the upazila Awami League president and general secretary.
Murad resigned as state minister for information and broadcasting in December 2021 after the prime minister asked him to, over his derogatory remarks on women.
Jamalpur Awami League also relieved Murad Hassan of his post of health and population affairs secretary of the party's district unit.
