The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has increased its patrols and searches on the streets of Dhaka to ensure law and order and prevent crimes, in anticipation of political rallies of the ruling Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) scheduled for Friday.
Significant RAB personnel presence was witnessed across various streets of Dhaka on Thursday.
Patrol teams were deployed in areas including Mirpur, Gabtoli, Shapla Chattar, Tikatuli, Naya Paltan, Matsya Bhaban and Dhanmondi using both motorbikes and cars.
Vehicle checks were being carried out at crucial checkpoints around the city.

Citizens were requested to report any criminal activities to RAB.
RAB-1 chief Lt Col Muhammad Mostaq Ahmed said security measures have been ramped up in areas under their jurisdiction, with a focus on the rallies.
Surveillance at entrances in Uttara has been increased and measures will be taken if any untoward incident occurs, he added.
Lt Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of RAB-3, said patrolling was being carried out in various areas, including the Sayedabad entry point of the capital.

He urged the public not to be alarmed and to report any untoward incidents to RAB.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has given permission to both the Awami League and the BNP to hold rallies at the south gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and Nayapaltan, respectively, in Dhaka on Friday.
