15 honoured with Inspiring Women Volunteer Award 2021

Fifteen women have been awarded the Inspiring Women Volunteer Award 2021 for playing a vital role in the country through their volunteer work amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

To promote and recognize the valuable contributions of women volunteers, UNV Bangladesh, VSO Bangladesh, Plan International Bangladesh and ActionAid Bangladesh jointly organized the award campaign at LGED Bhaban in Agargaon on Wednesday.

Those among the top five received prize money ranging from Tk10,000 to Tk1 lakh according to their ranking. They are Taheatul Jannat, Kamrun Nahar Koly, Tashnuva Anan, Arifa Jahan Bithi and Ayesha Akter.

All 15 winners received crests, certificates and medals.

They were honoured in recognition of their volunteer work in the health sector, awareness-building, food distribution, innovation, efforts against gender-based violence, child protection, education, environment, mental health, etc.

Taheatul Jannat, one of the recipients, said the recognition would inspire her to carry on with her volunteer work.

Women take on 57% of volunteering globally and that could increase women's participation and reduce inequality in society, speakers at the award-giving ceremony said.

Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) CEO Sultana Afroz said women volunteers had been playing a vital role amid the Covid-19 pandemic since its onset in Bangladesh and across the globe. 

The PPPA was committed to supporting women volunteers, their innovative ideas and participation in national efforts towards achieving national and global development goals and Vision 2041 in light of the national volunteer policy, she added.

UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Van Nguyen, Local Government Division Additional Secretary Dipak Chakraborty, UNV Bangladesh Country Coordinator Aktar Uddin, Dhaka University’s Prof Tania Haque, among others, were present at the event.
