A college student allegedly committed suicide in the capital's Khilgaon area early Sunday as he could not bear pain of his female friend's death in motorcycle accident.
The deceased was identified as Rahat Hossain Asif, 25, son of Amir Hossain, a student of Habibullah Bahar College.
Sudip Saha, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon police station, confirmed the death.
Alamgir Hossain, sub-inspector of the police station, said that the body was recovered around 10:30am from his residence in Dakhshin Goran of Khilgaon.
After legal procedure, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
The victim's family members said that Asif was injured in the accident that took place on Friday. After primary treatment at DMCH, he returned home.
He hanged himself with the grill of the window of his room as he could not bear the pain of the death of his friend in the accident, said the family members.
His friend Nowshin was killed in the road accident as a truck hit the motorcycle in Motijheel area on Friday.
The OC said that they are investigating the incident.
