A hailstorm started in Sylhet on Wednesday night, the 6th day of the Bangla month of Boishakh, offering city dwellers a big relief from the scorching heat.
This is the first hailstorm of the season that started at 10:20pm. At the same time, the wind is blowing.
Earlier, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted that the forecast rain or thunder showers at one or two places over Sylhet division in 24 hours from 9am on Tuesday when some parts of the country are reeling under intense heat wave.
A Met office bulletin said a severe heat wave is sweeping Rajshshi, Pabna, Chuadanga and Kushtia.
Besides, mild to moderate heat wave is lashing Dhaka, Rangpur and Sylhet divisions and some parts of Rajshahi, Khulna and Barisal divisions and Mymensingh, Chandpur, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachari and Patuakhali district and it may continue, it added.
The season's highest temperature of the country was recorded in Ishwardi at 43°C on Monday.
Earlier, the weather observatory centre recorded 42°C in Pabna on April 15, 2022.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
