Bangladesh celebrates Pohela Boishakh with great enthusiasm

Various cultural festivities, including Mongol Shobhajatra, took place nationwide to celebrate the new year

People across Bangladesh celebrated Pohela Boishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year, upholding the rich cultural heritage of the Bengalis on Friday.

In Dhaka, Chhayanaut, the country's esteemed cultural institution known for welcoming the Bangla new calendar year with its traditional flagship event on the morning of April 14, kicked off the festivity at 6:15am under the Banyan tree at Ramna (Ramna Batamul), reports UNB.

Meanwhile, Dhaka University's Fine Arts faculty brought out their Mongol Shobhajatra to celebrate the Bangla New Year 1430 this morning.

Outside the capital, the Bangla New Year is being celebrated across the country with a multitude of arrangements including Mongol Shobhajatra and other cultural festivities. 

In Tangail, Pohela Boishakh was celebrated with various colourful programs.

The programs started with the national anthem in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office at 10am on Friday.

From there, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Haider, a Mongol Shobhajatra was brought out.

In Satkhira, District Commissioner Mohammad Humayun Kabir opened the Mongol Shobhajatra by flying balloons and colourful festoons at the district collectorate square at 10am. 

Later, a discussion meeting was held in the auditorium of the District Art Academy.

In Jamalpur, the Islampur upazila administration organized a Mongol Shobhajatra at 9am on Friday.

The procession was taken out from the upazila parishad square and ended at the Faridul Haque Khan Dulal Auditorium.

State Minister for Religion Affairs Md Faridul Haq Khan spoke at a meeting organized for celebrating Pohela Boishakh.

In Gazipur, Pohela Boishakh was celebrated in a festive atmosphere with Mongol Shobhajatra and colourful rallies. 

A Mongol Shobhajatra was brought out in the morning under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anisur Rahman. 

The procession circumambulates the important roads of the city. In the rally, horse carriages, and palanquins (Palki) were displayed as these represent the culture of Bangladesh.

Thousands of people danced and sang along during the procession.

In Barisal, a remarkable Mongol Shobhajatra was held, including traditional programs such as Charukola Barishal and Boishakhi Mela.

Huzaifa Rahman, organizer of the Mongol Shobhajatra said that the procession was

organized by Gonotantrik Chhatra Jote formed under the initiative of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, and Chhatra Union.

In Sylhet, the district administration organized a Mongol Shobhajatra to welcome the new year. 

The procession started from the district administrator's office and ended at the Kobi Nazrul Auditorium. 

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen participated in the event.

In Comilla, Comilla Victoria College brought out a colourful possession, led by AKM Bahauddin Bahar, lawmaker of Comilla-6 constituency, to celebrate Pohela Boishakh

Leaders and students of different social, cultural and educational institutions participated in the procession.

The procession began at the college premises and ended at Cumilla Shilpakala Academy, where a cultural program was organized. 

In Khulna, people celebrated Pohela Boishakh with great enthusiasm and in a universal festive mood on Friday. 

While inaugurating the Mongol Shobhajatra Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said: "Pohela Boishakh is a Bangali tradition, a day of harmony and a universal festival.”

In Narail, people celebrated the beginning of the Bangla New Year 1430 with a variety of cultural events.

The district administration and Sammilita Sangskritik Jote organized multiple events throughout the day at Sultan Mancha square of Narail Government Victoria College and district Shilpakala Academy to welcome the new year and bid farewell to the old one, reports UNB.

Similar possessions were also organized in other parts of the country including Chittagong, Dinajpur, Sherpur, Brahmanbaria and Khagrachhari, including a wide range of cultural events.
