The High Commission of India hosted a two-day musical evening in Dhaka to celebrate Pohela Boishakh and the Bengali New Year, highlighting the shared cultural heritage between Bangladesh and India.

Titled “Badhon Ache Praane Praane: Of Harmony Within,” the celebration was held on April 17 and 18 at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC).

The programme featured renowned Rabindra Sangeet exponent Adity Mohsin alongside acclaimed Indian vocalist Srikanta Acharya.

The two artistes performed a range of songs celebrating the region’s shared musical traditions, drawing appreciation from the audience.

The event was supported by HSBC Bangladesh as part of a public-private collaboration aimed at promoting cultural heritage and creativity.

Speaking at the event, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma said the cultural ties between Bangladesh and India run deeper than political boundaries.

He described the joint performance by leading artistes from both countries as a powerful symbol of cultural continuity and mutual respect.

“The presence of two eminent singers from across the border on one stage reflects the shared traditions that unite our peoples and strengthens bonds of understanding and trust,” he added.

The celebration was attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon and other senior officials from the Government of Bangladesh, as well as representatives from the business community, media, academia and the cultural sector.

Pohela Boishakh, marking the first day of the Bengali calendar, is widely celebrated across Bangladesh with festivities rooted in centuries-old traditions, transcending social and religious boundaries.
