A mild heatwave that started in five districts of the country three days ago has now spread to 18 districts, causing immense suffering to people.
As the day progresses, the heat of the sun begins to intensify.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), there is no possibility of the intensity of the heat decreasing in the next week.
The sweltering heat may worsen further in the coming days as the intensity of the heatwave may increase from moderate to severe.
The maximum temperature might even reach 38-40°C. Even if there is a light breeze, it does not reduce the scorching heat.
If the temperature rises to 36-38°C, meteorologists call it a mild heatwave; when the temperature reaches 38-39°C that is called a moderate heatwave; when it remains between 40-42°C that is a severe heatwave; and temperatures above 42°C is a very severe heatwave.
The maximum temperature in the country last year was recorded in Rajshahi at 41.2°C on April 21.
Meanwhile, the highest temperature on Friday was 38°C in Chuadanga.
Apart from this, Tangail, Faridpur, Rajshahi, Pabna's Ishwardi, Bogra, Chittagong's Sandwip, Rangamati, Feni, Bandarban, Khulna, Mongla, Satkhira, Jessore, Kumarakhali, Patuakhali's Khepupara and Bhola recorded maximum temperatures of more than 36°C.
The highest temperature recorded in the capital on Friday was 36.5°C.
No rain was recorded anywhere in the country.
