State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Enamur Rahman has said the traders affected in Tuesday's Bangabazar fire will be rehabilitated after investigation.

“So far we will describe this incident as an accident. It is not right to give any specific opinion until the investigation report is submitted,” the state minister told journalists after a meeting with Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapash in the afternoon on the Bangabazar fire.

He said: “Six markets have been damaged by the fire. Around 5,000 small traders have been affected. They bought many goods on the occasion of Eid. They are all destroyed.”

However, with the help of the police, many have been able to recover some goods and move them away, said the state minister.

“The cause of the fire is not yet known. The fire service is still working. A probe committee is formed after any accident. After investigation we will know the real reason behind the fire incident.”

“The prime minister has monitored all matters including fire-extinguishing and rescue operations. She kept continuous contact with us all the time. The prime minister has given instructions - after the investigation and determination of the amount of damage, the rehabilitation of the affected businessmen will be done, “ said Enamur Rahman.

Instructions have been given to the district administration from the ministry - to pay Tk15,000 to the injured immediately. A special team has been formed to treat the injured, he added further.

The fire that broke out in Dhaka's Bangabazar early on Tuesday morning has been brought under control after over six hours of frantic efforts.
