UN Secretary-General's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advocate Queen Mathilde, who is on a visit to Bangladesh, has paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
They met at the prime minister's office on Wednesday morning.
Queen Mathilde of Belgium arrived in Dhaka on Monday on a three-day visit.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen welcomed her at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Mathilde is the first Queen of Belgium to visit Dhaka.
On her first day in Bangladesh, the Belgian queen visited Fakir Apparels Ltd, a garment factory in Narayanganj that produces clothes for major international brands.
The Belgian Queen met with some of the women working at the factory and visited the childcare facilities.
Afterwards, she visited an Ability Based Accelerated Learning centre in Dhaka's Khilgaon area, where she spoke with the children about how the Covid-19 pandemic had disrupted their lives and education.
Queen Mathilde visited Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar district on Tuesday.
She met with Rohingya women volunteers working to prevent and respond to gender-based violence and participated in a discussion with Rohingya refugee psychosocial counsellors to learn more about the mental health situation of their community.
During the visit, the delegation was welcomed in various facilities managed by UNHCR and its partners, including national organizations, such as Brac, CODEC, GK, IUCN, NGO Forum, as well as Unicef and UN Women.
Queen Mathilde ascended the throne in 2013.
She is the honorary president of both Child Focus, a foundation for missing and sexually exploited children, and Unicef Belgium.
In 2001, then-princess Mathilde established the Princess Mathilde Fund (now the Queen Mathilde Fund) to promote the care of vulnerable people. As an SDG Advocate, she is particularly focused on mental health.
