A couple was burned to death in a fire at their flat in Syednagar of the capital's Bhatara area early Thursday.
The deceased are Abdul Majid Sikder, 70 and his wife Taslima Begum, 50. They used to live on the 3rd floor in flat no-106 of A block of the area.
Md Razon, sub-inspector of Bhatara police station confirmed the matter.
The police official said that local residents informed police and fire service as they saw fire in the flat of the couple.
The fire had doused before police and fire service reached the spot.
Police primarily suspected that the fire broke out when the stove was ignited as there was a leakage in the gas cylinder.
The couple died on the spot, said the SI, adding that the bodies were recovered.
Morshed Alam, nephew of the couple, filed a general diary in connection with the incident.
