Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has warned that befitting reply will be given if arsons of the past terrorism reappear.
"We have taken preparations to thwart any sort of arson and terrorism if anyone tries to unleash terrorism in the name of movements," he said, while addressing an event held to raise awareness against drugs and terrorism on Wednesday as the chief guest.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and City Community Policing Forum jointly hosted the rally on the police lines parade ground.
With RMP Police Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique in the chair, the mass gathering was addressed, among others, by Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner GSM Zafarullah, Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil and RAB-5 Commanding Officer Lt Col Reaz Shahrier.
IGP Chowdhury Al-Mamun said they have combated arson in the past and law enforcement agencies are now ready to face such type of terrorism and any other ill-efforts to destabilize the country.
He also mentioned that forging social resistance against drug abuse along with its illicit trafficking and trading can be the best way of protecting the youth from drug addiction.
Simultaneously, concerted efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned and local communities have become crucial to ensure a drug-free society.
He said the government has a zero-tolerance policy against drug addiction and urged all quarters to come forward to protect the young generation from the grip of social crime.
"We have to build a healthy society to achieve sustainable development goals," he said, adding that the movement against drug abuse should be turned into a social movement.
