A group of thieves struck the ancestral home of Inspector General Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir in Amlapara area of Bagerhat early Tuesday, taking advantage of heavy rainfall and local power outage.
According to family sources, the burglars entered the premises under the cover of darkness. Despite the presence of CCTV cameras, they managed to evade surveillance and cut nearly two coils of copper wire from the main electricity line leading to the meter. The stolen wire is estimated to be worth around Tk 60,000.
The theft caused alarm in the neighborhood when discovered Tuesday morning. Local authorities were immediately notified, prompting the deployment of multiple police teams to investigate the incident and recover the stolen property.
Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Md Hasan Chowdhury confirmed that a local scrap dealer in Bagerhat city has been detained for questioning. Authorities suspect that the stolen copper wire may have been sold to his shop.
“This is a deeply regrettable incident. Several teams are working to identify the perpetrators, who will be brought to justice swiftly,” SP Chowdhury said.
