The government has issued a notice saying that no toll collection would be allowed on any road or highway reducing the speed of vehicles without specific terminals across the country.
The directive was issued recently in a notification of the Local Government Division (LGD).
According to the notice, tolls will only be collected at designated terminals on the highways.
The LGD instructed the mayors to comply with the instructions of the road transport and highways department not to collect tolls on highways without specific terminals.
Pointing to mayors of municipalities, the notice reads, following a High Court order passed on April 21 after hearing of a writ petition no-4640/2022, the directive has been made from Road, Transport and Highway division to issue a notice drawing attention of mayors of all city corporations and municipalities.
Besides, a request has been made to municipal mayors in the notification to comply with the directive as well.
