Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has attributed clashes at Nagar Bhaban, the Dhaka South City Corporation headquarters, to power struggle over control and influence between two rival groups.
"Previously, a similar altercation left individuals injured and today’s incident mirrors that same cycle of confrontation. There have also been instances where the gates of Nagar Bhaban were locked, with public declarations made that 'Asif Mahmud has shut down city corporation operations.'" Asif wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
"Whenever tensions rise, blame is conveniently placed on Asif Mahmud. Even when certain members of the same party instigate unrest and lead others into the trap of agitation, responsibility is again shifted to him," he added.
Earlier in the day, a series of altercations occurred between two factions of the “Jatiotabadi Sromik-Kormochari Union” at Nagar Bhaban, resulting in injuries to several members from both sides.
Meanwhile, BNP leader Ishraque Hossain alleged that a planned attack had been carried out by "fascist collaborators" to create chaos at the Dhaka South City Corporation headquarters, Nagar Bhaban, and disrupt civic services, with the intention of diverting the ongoing movement aimed at installing him as the Dhaka south mayor.
