Narayanganj filling station fined 1L for short-selling customers

Four other filling stations were given warnings

The Directorate of Consumer Protection on Sunday afternoon fined Tk1 lakh to a filling station in Narayanganj for selling consumers shorts.

Mersus Janani filling station located in Aliganj area of Fatullah under Narayanganj Sadar upazila was fined while four other filling stations were warned, said Narayanganj district co-director Md Selimuzzaman.

He said: “We often get complaints that the filling stations are cheating the customers with less than the measured amount of oil. Recently, raids were conducted at various filling stations located in Narayanganj Sadar upazila based on multiple complaints.”

During the drive, after it was proved that Mersus Janani filling station provided 230ml less diesel of 5 litres the authorities were fined under Sections 47 and 48 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009. Besides, four more filling stations were raided and warned.

The members of the Department of Environment, CAAB and district police supported Narayanganj district co-director Md Selimuzzaman during the drive.
