The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) has called for scrapping the registrations of political parties with religious identities.

A delegation led by former minister and party chief Hasanul Haque Enu made the call during a dialogue with the Election Commission on Sunday, reports Bangla Tribune.

The party urged the commission to not provide registrations to such parties and called for a strict ban on the use of religion in politics.

They also called for timely national and local polls, the commission not getting involved in any political controversy including participation of a party in elections or any party boycotting the polls.

In their proposal, Jasad urged the EC to not encourage any illegal demands or uncalled for interference from foreign diplomats, amend laws that weakens the jurisdiction of the commission, resolve existing EVM issues and voting through both ballots and EVMS, make the voter registration easier and faster,

Strict steps to control the expenditure of the elections, exemplary punishment for the employees of the Executive Branch in case of breaking the law during polls and putting law enforcers under judicial magistrates if the needs arises.
