The Election Commission (EC) has released a notification outlining the necessary documents for individuals seeking to change their religion on the National Identity Card (NID).

The notification, signed by EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam, was recently issued, specifying the documents required for amending religious information on the NID.

According to the guidelines, applicants intending to change their name, parents' name, or spouse's name due to a change in religion must submit the following documents:

  1. An affidavit executed before a judicial magistrate, accompanied by a notice published in a newspaper.
  2. A marriage certificate issued by a registered Kazi (marriage registrar), where applicable.
  3. Relevant educational certificates (with an undertaking to provide a revised certificate from the concerned education board within three months of NID revision).
  4. An affidavit signed by a mayor or chairman.

The notification further directs applicants to submit the application form along with these documents to the office of the upazila election officer. Subsequently, the matter will be handled by the additional district election officer once it is categorized accordingly.
