Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has said religion should not be used to create political divisions, urging people of all faiths to work together to advance Bangladesh.
“Everyone has their own religion, but the country belongs to all of us,” he said while attending a programme in Dhanbari of Tangail on Tuesday.
The minister distributed cash assistance from his personal fund among 36 Durga Puja mandaps and saris from the prime minister’s relief and welfare fund among members of the Hindu community.
He called for celebrating all religious festivals peacefully to strengthen communal harmony and urged people to refrain from creating divisions through politics. Supporting members of the Hindu community in times of need, he added, was a shared responsibility.
The programme was chaired by Dhanbari upazila BNP President Principal MA Azizur Rahman. Local BNP leaders, Hindu community representatives and other dignitaries attended.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated a newly built visitor room at Madhupur Upazila Parishad and planted a sapling at Dhanbari Upazila Parishad as part of a nationwide programme to plant 25 crore trees.
