A baby girl was born in the shelter of Gouri Nagar Government Primary School in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet on Thursday evening.
The parents of the baby – Lutfa Begum and Kamal Uddin of Gaurinagar village in Dakshin Ranikhai union of the upazila named her Bonya after the flood in Sylhet.
Borhan Uddin, office guard of Gouri Nagar Government Primary School, said that around 150 to 200 residents of Gaurinagar took shelter in the school since Thursday morning as their houses were submerged in flood water. This is where the baby was born, he added.
The parents of the baby said that they were facing trouble due to shortage of food. The mother was not able to produce enough milk for the baby, adding that they were hoping for some help from the government so they could survive better in this situation.
