Administration of third, fourth dose of Covid vaccine halted

Around 60 million people in Bangladesh have received the third dose and 30 million people have received the fourth dose

Update : 01 Mar 2023, 01:08 PM

The Directorate General of Health Services in Bangladesh has temporarily ceased administering the third and fourth doses of Covid vaccine due to a depleted stock.

Dr Abdullah Al Murad, program manager of the Extended Programme on Immunization at the DGHS, stated that the directorate would resume administering these doses as soon as it received new vaccines.

The public would be informed of any updates through a press briefing, he added.

Bangladesh recorded its first Covid cases in March 2020, after which the government launched a vaccination program in February of the following year to prevent the further spread of the disease.

As of Tuesday, approximately 150 million people had received the first dose of Covid vaccine and over 130 million had received the second dose, according to DGHS.

Furthermore, around 60 million people have received the third dose and 30 million people have received the fourth dose.
