The emergency and inpatient departments of all state-run hospitals will remain open during the three days of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, starting from Friday, following a government directive.
The Health Ministry has also given instructions to ensure the presence of doctors in the emergency department and to maintain round-the-clock medical services for people during this time.
The directive was issued on May 6 in a letter signed by Md Rokon Uddin, deputy secretary of the ministry’s Health Services Division.
Meanwhile, the outpatient department, fever clinic and Covid-19 detection PCR lab will be open at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on Saturday.

The Health Services Division said in the letter also said that hospitals should arrange special teams for the Eid holidays.
Bangladesh is celebrating its second Eid-ul-Fitr with restrictions on public movement and gatherings since the Covid-19 pandemic made landfall here in March last year.
However, the restrictions were overwhelmingly flouted when tens of thousands of people left Dhaka city for native homes over the week before the Eid holidays, ignoring risks of infection.
By official count, the pandemic has so far killed 12,076 people around the country.
