Bangladesh has logged 37 deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours until Monday morning, taking the overall tally to 7,089.
The total number of coronavirus cases surged to 492,332 as the health authorities recorded 1,799 fresh cases in the 24-hour span.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the updated figures through a regular press release on Monday.
Of the total samples tested, 10.69% tested positive, whereas 16.49 % cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, added the press release.
Deceased
Among the total infections, 86.09% patients have recovered, while 1.43% died since Bangladesh detected its first three Covid-19 positive cases on March 8.
Of the 37 victims, 27 are male, the press release said, adding that two were in their 40s, eight in their 50s while 27 were above 60 years.
The division-wise data shows that 25 deaths took place in Dhaka division, seven in Chittagong, three in Khulna and one each in Rajshahi and Sylhet.
Among the total 7,089 deaths, 3,863 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 1,315 in Chittagong division, 419 in Rajshahi division, 511 in Khulna division, 231 in Barisal division, 279 in Sylhet division, 318 in Rangpur division, and 153 in Mymensingh division.
Recovery
The recovery count rose to 423,845 after another 2,949 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.
A total of 16,828 samples were tested at 140 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.
A total of 2,986,458 samples have so far been tested since the detection of the first Covid-19 cases in the country.
The DGHS said in order to make treatment facilities easily available for the Covid-19 patients, the government has introduced telemedicine services comprising 100 physicians, for round- the-clock in the country.
A total of 619,595 people have so far received healthcare services from telemedicine.

Global Situation
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,620,624 lives and infected 72,724,234 people across the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 50,941,022 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 218 countries and territories across the planet.
