Covid-19: Bangladesh records 15 deaths in 24 hours, another 1,527 test positive

So far, 300,738 patients have made full recovery across the country

Bangladesh has witnessed 15 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours until Friday morning, taking the number of total fatalities to 5,623.

The country also logged more than 386,000 coronavirus cases with 1,527 people testing positive over the same period.

With the latest figure, the number of all confirmed cases so far jumped to 386,086, according to the daily virus update released on Friday by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).  

Of the 15 deceased -- 13 men and two women -- 12 were from Dhaka division, and one each from Chittagong, Khulna, and Rangpur divisions.

All the victims died at different hospitals in the country.

So far, 4,327 men (76.95%) and 1,296 women (23.05%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.

The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.46%.            

The DGHS said 13,784 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours. 

As many as 13,577 samples were tested in the 109 authorized labs — government and private — across the country and 1,527 new patients were confirmed.

The latest figures show an infection rate of 11.25%.

To date, 2,140,129 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 18.04% so far.   

The health authorities said 1,509 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.

So far, 300,738 patients — 77.89% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.

On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,103,757 lives and infected 39,235,114 people across the world till Friday afternoon, according to Worldometer.

As many as 29,410,840 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 214 countries and territories across the planet.
