Bangladesh has registered 21 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours until Friday morning, taking the number of total fatalities to 5,093.
The country also logged more than 356,000 coronavirus cases with 1,383 people having tested positive over the same period.
With this development, the number of all confirmed cases so far has jumped to 356,767.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Friday afternoon.
Of the 21 deceased, including 14 men, 16 were from Dhaka division, two from Chittagong, and one each from Rajshahi, Khulna, and Rangpur divisions.
All the Covid victims died at different hospitals.
So far, 3,949 men (77.54%) and 1,144 women (22.46%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.43%.
The DGHS said 12,593 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
As many as 12,473 samples were tested in the 103 authorized labs — government and private — across the country and 1,383 new patients were confirmed.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 11.09%.
To date, 1,888,010 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 18.90% so far.
The health authorities said 1,932 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 267,024 patients — 74.85% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus strain later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 988,272 lives and infected 32,448,944 people across the world till Friday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 23,950,442 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
