The authorities are planning to convert all stadiums across the country, including the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, to quarantine and isolation centres to treat Covid-19 patients.
Youth and Sports State Minister Zahid Ahsan Russel said: “All the stadiums of the country, including the cricket and indoor stadium in Dhaka will be temporarily turned into hospitals for coronavirus affected patients.”
The junior minister on Monday issued a press release in this regard.
According to his statement: “The department of health and district administration can adapt the stadiums for treatment of coronavirus affected patients.”
The major stadiums are now being used to house law enforcement agencies who are enforcing social distancing to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
There are 80 stadiums and 125 mini-stadiums in the country.
The IEDCR has confirmed one more infected with coronavirus in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the total infected in the country to 49.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed five deaths and 19 recoveries.
The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has infected 722,196 people and claimed 33,976 lives till 10am on Monday, according to worldometer.info.
Globally, 151,766 infected people have also recovered from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
