In the inaugural ceremony of ‘Bangladesh Integrated Food Policy Research Program’ together with the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies, International Food policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and University of Illinois at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka, he also said, “The government will soon inaugurate ‘silo project’ by the next January 2017. Under this project at least 5lakhs household would be able to store up to 30kgs food in case of any disaster.”
Bangladesh helped Nepal when the country faced earthquake last year, mentioned the minister. He also said the government has taken several social projects including Tk10 per kilogram rice to help the people of the country.
Dr Alex Winter-Nelson, Director of the International Programme, University of Illinois said, “Food is a matter of concern across the world as the globe started becoming smaller in terms of communication and technology. We have to ensure food safety and security in every corner of the universe.”
He also said, the food policy, complexity and security have not met the optimum level across the world yet.
The project, Bangladesh Integrated Food Policy Research Program, which is supported by the World Bank would help at least 5000 households of Bangladesh disaster prone areas to cope up with bad times, said Rajashree S. Paralkar, acting country director, World Bank, Bangladesh. During the project, data analysis and research would help the country to deal with the complex food security, supply and policy to be reshaped and modernised, she added.
