Ansar retain women’s handball title

It was the 18th women’s handball title for Ansar after their first came in the second edition in 1984

Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party carried on their dominance in the National Women’s Handball Championship as they retained the title after beating 11-time champion Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation Tuesday in the final of the event’s 30th edition named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

It was the 18th women’s handball title for Ansar after their first came in the second edition in 1984. 

They finished runners-up behind BJMC in four consecutive meets, starting from 2014, before clinching the trophy last year.

Khadiza scored 11 goals as Ansar won the game by 33-25 points after leading the first half 16-11.

Shilpi Akter netted eight goals for BJMC, who appeared in better shape after the break. 

Renowned thespian Asaduzzaman Noor was present during the closing ceremony as the chief guest and distributed the prizes among the winners.
