Fahad misses GM norm by half a point

Fahad needed a win in order to acquire the GM norm but had to settle for a stalemate, which saw him finish 12th in the overall tournament standing

International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman missed out on the Grandmaster norm by only half a point in the EKA IIFL Investment Managers 5th International Grand Master Chess Tournament in Mumbai, India. 

Fahad earned six points out of nine games after drawing with IM Taher Yoseph Theolifus of Indonesia in the ninth round. 

Fahad needed a win in order to acquire the GM norm but had to settle for a stalemate, which saw him finish 12th in the overall tournament standing.

GM Ziaur Rahman became 22nd with six points while his son, Tahsin Tajwar Zia emerged 146th with two points.

In the last round, Zia drew with IM Muthaiah Al of India and Tahsin beat Women’s Fide Master Mitali Patil of India. 

A total of 152 players from 23 countries including 25 GMs, one woman GM, 28 IMs and six women’s IMs participated in the event.  

Meanwhile, Marzouq Chowdhury became 74th with five points and Azher Hossain finished 105th with 4.5 points out of nine games in the EKA IIFL Investment Managers 5th Mumbai Junior U-13 Fide Rating Chess Tournament. 

A total of 198 players from five countries participated in the junior event.
