Bangladesh national bridge team have qualified for the World Bridge once again as they beat Pakistan by 138-135 IMPs in the semi-final of the BFAME selection in Jordan yesterday.
Bangladesh, who qualified for the last edition of the World Bridge for the first time in their history, started from behind in the last session of the four-session, 64-board semifinal, but they kept their composure to reach home narrowly.
AHM Kamruzumman Sohag, a banker of Bangladesh Krishi Bank and his partner, Moshiur Rahman, a banker of EXIM Bank, played all the boards in one side since the beginning of the primary round, where they finished second to qualify for the semi-final.
Shah Zia ul Haque and Rashedul Hasan played as the other pair and Monirul Islam was the other member while one of their key members Asifur Rahman Chowdhury missed the tournament due to family reason.
Asifur was ecstatic after winning the game as he spoke to the Dhaka Tribune after the game.
“The result shows the improvement of our bridge that gets very little support. But hopefully we can heist the flag of our nation in the global arena with pride through this universal game,” said Asifur.
