Jamalpur clinched the 5th national youth Women’s Handball tournament, organised by Bangladesh Handball federation and sponsored by Walton, at the Shaheed (captain) M Monsur Ali stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The tournament, which began on 13 October, saw Jamalpur beat Naogaon 28-16 in the final and emerge as the champions on the final day.
The victor was up 17-9 goals in the first half and a brilliant second half sealed the championship for them. Jamalpur’s Alpona Akhter scored 8 goals while her teammates Mishti Khatun and Sabina Akhter scored 6 each. Alpona was also adjudged as the best player for her performance.
The closing ceremony was graced with the presence of the chief guest and operative director of the tournament, F M Iqbal bin Anwar Don , Head of sports and welfare, Walton Group. Other notable guests include sports organiser Al-haj Farida Akhter Begum and Jahirul Islam Tutul, Head of Programme Development, Radio Today.
Vice-President of the Bangladesh Handball Federation and chairman of the tournament committee M Nurul Islam was also present along with other representatives from the federation.
