Sweden-based Bangladeshi origin footballer Anika Siddiqui is set to be called up to the Bangladesh national women's team, according to different sources on social media.
Bangladesh head coach Golam Rabbani Choton also admitted the development to Dhaka Tribune.
“She [Anika] plays in the Sweden league. She will join us during her vacation as she studies there. She will also come when we have international matches,” said Choton Wednesday.
When asked if the 17-year old winger would have to go through any trial, he replied, “She has been selected after her match videos were analyzed.”
Anika, born in Sweden, made her debut in the Swedish Cup earlier this month representing the senior team of top-tier club IF Brommapojkarna.
The league is one of the top-ranked in Europe.
Bangladesh coach also said Anika could be in the national team for the Olympics 2024 Asian qualifiers, scheduled to begin in Myanmar in the first week of April.
