Bangladesh right-arm pacer Jahanara Alam is going to feature in the Women’s T20 Challenge tournament, the female version of Indian Premier League, as she has joined her side Velocity. Jahanara’s team is scheduled to start their tournament campaign facing Trailbazers on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Jaharana is the only Bangladeshi woman cricketer to participate in the three-side tournament organized by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Former Bangladesh national women’s team coach Mamatha Maben will coach Jahanara’s team in the six-day-long tournament.
This is the second year in a row that the BCCI has decided to conduct women's matches during the IPL playoffs and this season, the format will be a single round-robin with a final. All matches are to be played at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium with the final slated for May 11.
The three participating teams are comprised of current and potential women cricket stars from India and a selection of the world’s best. The combined strength of talent on display will showcase the quality of women’s cricket, believes the organizers.
