Bcb bans Monjurul after inquiry into Jahanara’s harassment complaint

The decision was confirmed in a press statement issued following a meeting of the BCB board of directors

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has barred former women’s team selector and manager Monjurul Islam from all cricket-related activities after an Independent Inquiry Committee upheld parts of harassment allegations made by national team cricketer Jahanara Alam.

The decision was confirmed in a press statement issued following a meeting of the BCB board of directors.

In the statement, the board said the ban was imposed in light of the findings of the inquiry committee, which was formed to examine the complaint lodged by Jahanara, a former Bangladesh Women’s National Team captain. The BCB added that it is reviewing the committee’s recommendations and may take further action if required. No time frame for the ban was specified.

The five-member committee was set up in November last year and submitted its report to BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul on February 2 after assessing four allegations raised in the complaint.

While two of the claims could not be proven due to insufficient evidence, the committee found prima facie evidence of inappropriate conduct in connection with the remaining two allegations.

Although Monjurul is not currently employed by the BCB — his contract expired on June 30, 2025 — the board said the sanction would prevent him from holding any future roles or engaging in activities under its authority.

Separately, the BCB has formed a complaint committee in line with a 2009 High Court Division directive. The body, chaired by Rubaba Dowla, who is also the board’s women’s wing committee chief, aims to reinforce institutional safeguards and improve mechanisms for handling grievances within Bangladesh cricket.
