East Zone pace all-rounder Farhad Reza secured his career best first-class bowling figures in an innings with a seven-wicket haul to tear apart the Central Zone batting during day one in the third round of the Bangladesh Cricket League on Wednesday.

Right-arm pacer Farhad bagged seven wickets for East Zone to restrict opponents Central Zone to a below par 118 runs in the first innings in Bogra. At stumps, East Zone trailed by 81 runs with nine wickets remaining in their first innings.

East Zone won the toss and had put Central Zone to bat. Pacer Abu Jayed Chowdhury laid the first blow on Central Zone removing opener Pinak Ghosh with the score on 38 for one . Before any more runs were added to the board, Farhad got his first wicket of the day by dismissing opener Rakin Ahmed six balls later.

Farhad picked more wickets in quick succession as Marshall Ayub and captain Shuvagata Hom perished cheaply. Central Zone’s lower middle-order gave some resistance as Sharifullah added 23 runs but the side could not pull-off a recovery as the innings crumbled to a low score with Jaker Ali unbeaten on 20.

Farhad picked seven scalps giving away just 32 runs while Abu Jayed picked two.

East Zone later batted 14 overs before stumps and scored 37 runs losing one wicket.
