South, Central set up BCL one-day final

The final will be held Saturday in Sylhet

Walton Central Zone lost their last group stage match against BCB South Zone in the Bangladesh Cricket League one-day tournament Thursday but both the sides reached the final.

In the other match Islami Bank East Zone beat BCB North Zone but failed to reach the final due to inferior run-rate.

At Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, after losing the toss Central lost both their openers to Mustafizur Rahman within nine runs. 

Abdul Mazid coming in at No 3 scored 46 to steady the ship while Mosaddek Hossain made 44 runs off 57 balls.

But it was lower-order batsman Abu Haider who provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 54 off just 27 balls to help his side end on 220/8.

Mustafizur, who faced some pounding later in the innings, returned with 4/63. 

In reply, South got off to a good start as their openers accumulated 60 runs.

They quickly lost three wickets to get reduced to 96/3 but Zakir Hasan and Towhid Hridoy added 80 runs to put their side in the driving seat. 

Zakir got out for 40 but man of the match Towhid remained not out on 65 off 78 balls to navigate the side home, and clinching five-wicket win.

With the result both sides ended on four points each from three games. 

They will meet each other in the final Saturday. 

In the other match at the same venue's academy ground, North were all for 216 runs in 49.5 overs thanks to 66 from Mahmudullah and 54 from Marshall Ayub. 

Nayeem Hasan picked highest three wickets for East. 

In reply, East skipper Imrul Kayes, who was adjudged player of the match, scored a brisk 71 off 81 balls to make the chase easy.

In the end South chased down the target in 37.5 overs to record a four-wicket.

With the result both the sides ended on two points apiece.
