Hosts Bangladesh kept their hopes alive in the ACC U-19 Asia cup tournament as they beat Pakistan by three wickers in their group B encounter at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Monday.
In the other match of the day, Afghanistan defeated Nepal with the same margin during their group A clash at BKSP.
Bangladesh v Pakistan
Bangladesh, who lost to Sri Lanka in their first match, decided to field first after their skipper captain Towhid Ridoy won the toss.
Pakistan made a decent start and reached 73-1 at a stage but lost wickets in regular intervals to be bundled out for 187 in 45.2 overs. Middle order batsman Waqar Ahmed made 67 off just 58 balls while opener Salim Ayub scored 49 but young Tigers were always in the hunt of picking up wickets.
Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was the pick of the bowlers with a return of 3-53 and opening bowler Shoriful Islam got 2-20.
In reply, Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan in the second ball of their innings before losing two other wickets to be reduced for 43-3. But Prantik Nawroz Nabil and Shamim Hossian build a 97-run stand in the fourth wicket to navigate hosts chase.
Bangladesh lost three wickets in space of 10 runs as the score became 184-7 at a stage but wicketkeeper Akbar Ali, who remained not out on 17, ensured them reaching home with 16 balls to spare.
Right-arm seamer Mohammad Musa took three wickets for Pakistan.
Afghanistan v Nepal:
In the group A match in Dhaka, Nepal were all out for just 131 runs in 38.3 overs after opting to bat first. Rohit Kumar Paudel was the top scorer for Nepal scoring 46 runs. Rashid Khan made 30 off just 25 batting in number nine.
Afghanistan’s right arm medium pacer Azmatullah Omarzai took four wickets conceding just 14 runs in eight overs.
Afghanistan made a decent start chasing the small total as they cruised to 60-1 in just 12 overs before Nepal bowlers picked up few wickets to make the contest interesting.
Left-arm spinner Surya Tamang led the destruction picking up 4-36 to reduce Afghanistan to 115-7 but the young boys of the Test playing nation somehow managed to reach the target as Abdul Rahman struck a six that sealed the match.
All the eight teams will play on Tuesday as in group A, Afghanistan will play against India at BKSP 3, Dhaka while Nepal will play against UAE at BKSP in Dhaka.
In group B, Bangladesh will play against Hong Kong at the ZACS while Pakistan will play against Sri Lanka at the MA Aziz stadium in Chittagong.
