Bangladesh clinched a crucial 17-run victory over Scotland in Bangi, Malaysia, becoming the second team from Group D to advance to the Super Sixes of the Women’s Under-19 Twenty20 World Cup, following Australia.
Scotland also progressed after Australia defeated Nepal in the day’s later match.
Sent in to bat, Bangladesh faced early trouble, slipping to 50 for five in 10 overs.
However, a vital 38-run partnership in 33 balls between Afia Ashima Era (21 off 19) and captain Sumaiya Akter brought stability to the innings.
Sumaiya remained unbeaten till the end, anchoring the side with 28 off 36 balls, as Bangladesh posted 120 for nine in their 20 overs.
In the chase, Scotland started promisingly, reaching 19 without loss in four overs.
But leg-spinner Anisa Akter Soba turned the game around, dismissing Emma Walsingham for 11 and contributing to a run-out in the same over.
Pippa Sproul (43 off 41) and captain Niamh Muir (22 off 32) revived Scotland with a 50-run partnership, but Soba struck again, removing Sproul and two other batters to seal the game.
Player of the match Soba finished with impressive figure of four for 25, as Scotland could only muster 103 for eight in their 20 overs.
