Runa Laila to celebrate 50 years of music at concert in London

Runa Laila, one of the most prominent singers in the subcontinent, is all set to mark 50 years of her career in music by performing in a concert aptly title Gaaney Gaaney 50 in London. On September 24, the singer will perform at the City Pavillion Hall, London. Last Friday, the organiser of the concert, UK-Doctor Chef Limited, had arranged a press conference with the artist at East London to share details about Gaaney Gaaney 50. “Few days back, Arpita Roy and Anirban Mondol from Kolkata, a physician couple living in London, gave me the idea to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of my singing career in this way in London. I liked the idea right away. Now, I've arrived in London to perform in it,” Runa Laila said at the press conference. The singer also said that the proceeds of the show will go to charity organisations that work in human welfare projects. The legendary singer started her musical career at an early age. She made her debut in playback for the Urdu film Jugnu, and started singing for Bangla films in the '60s with legendary singer Mahmud Un Nabi in the duet “Gaan-er Khataye Swaralipi Likhey”. Laila, who debuted on TV through the Zia Mohyuddin Show, a Karachi TV stage show in 1972, occupies a special place in South Asian music. Born in Bangladesh when it was still East Pakistan, she established a successful musical career in India and Pakistan too. Runa Laila has memorable hits like “Dama dam mast qalandar” to her record.
