‘Invisible Stories’ to explore Bengali folklore at Shilpakala Academy

Jointly produced by Alliance Française de Dhaka, Compagnie Graine de Vie, and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy

Update : 05 Nov 2026, 03:50 PM

Theatre production “Invisible Stories” will be staged at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on November 6 and 7, with both performances beginning at 6pm.

Jointly produced by Alliance Française de Dhaka, Compagnie Graine de Vie and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the production explores Bengali ghost stories and folk traditions through body puppetry and live music.

Directed by French puppeteer Laurie Cannac, the production draws on her interactions with artists and communities across Bangladesh. Cannac and Swatee Bhadra will perform on stage, accompanied by live music from the Nonabhumi Organisation. Choreography is by Mohammad Farhad Ahmed.

The story follows two scientists investigating the influence of ghosts on everyday life in Dhaka. Their research takes them beyond the capital to the Sundarbans, where they encounter unexpected connections between people, nature, and supernatural forces.

Through Bengali folklore, the production presents Dhaka as a surreal city, offering supernatural explanations for familiar urban experiences such as traffic congestion and rapid urbanization.

The November 6 performance will be presented in English and Bangla, while the November 7 show will be staged in French and Bangla.

Both performances are free and open to the public, subject to seat availability.
