Following the success of Mirzapur, the crime drama is moving from OTT to cinemas with a film adaptation that aims to widen the franchise’s gritty world.
The project is expected to build on the series’ raw storytelling, memorable characters and power struggles, while scaling up the action and visual reach for the big screen.
An industry source said the film will be “bigger, darker, and more cinematic” than the show, with new characters, returning favourites and fresh conflicts.
An official announcement has confirmed that Mirzapur: The Movie will release in theatres on September 4.
The film will be directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. It stars Sheeba Chaddha, Ravi Kishan, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu, among others.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani as co-producers, the film is being made under the Excel Entertainment banner.
